# Genie

> How Genie works in AQ: one assistant thread per person, the morning briefing, mail and calendar wakes, drafts not sends, consent cards, and voice where enabled.

Genie is your personal assistant in AQ: one standing thread per person that knows your work. Turn it on from the Bots menu in the sidebar, the rail button or your phone. Underneath it is a [bot](https://aq.dev/docs/bots/) with a job you can read and change.

## What Genie does

- A morning briefing on a schedule in your time zone.
- What needs you from mail and meetings, through your connected Gmail and Google Calendar.
- AQ work waiting on you, and what your bots did.
- Code work, through a work item it starts after asking you.

## Drafts, never sends

Genie writes drafts and leaves sending to you. Anything outward follows the per-tool permission you set in [integrations](https://aq.dev/product/integrations/). When Genie needs a yes, a Needs you card appears in its thread on every screen; on the iPhone app it also arrives as a notification.

## Voice

Where voice is enabled for your organization, you can talk to Genie. What you say lands in the same Genie thread as a message, so voice and text share one history, and questions that need your consent show up as a card in the thread as well as on the voice screen.
