The short version

Five things the data says.

  1. Google traffic grew 4.6× in 15 months. The biggest single jump came in Feb 2025 (+47%). Since the January 2026 peak it has drifted 26% lower.
  2. Search follows the name; it doesn't create it. 90% of search traffic is people typing “Cursor.” The name was built on video: launch clips, founder posts at big moments, and creators teaching it.
  3. The quiet engine is integrations: “Add to Cursor” buttons and Cursor setup docs on hundreds of other companies' sites.
  4. Paid is for enterprise: thousands of LinkedIn ads and InMails, no active Meta ads, and Google search ads tried and dropped.
  5. Next, by its open roles: enterprise sales across Japan, India, Korea, Australia and Southeast Asia, a creator campaign lead, performance and lifecycle marketing.

    Eight plays to copy

Each comes with the evidence, the effort, and a prompt to hand your own agent.

    01SEEN · backlink anchors
Install buttons other people put on their sites

183 sites link with “Add to Cursor” (first seen Sep 2025) and about 530 with “Cursor MCP docs.” Every MCP server and dev tool that ships an install button is a free billboard.

Effort: WeekMeasure: Sites linking with your button after 30 days
    Prompt for your agent
Design a one-click "Add to <my product>" link for the thing third parties most often integrate with us (plugins, connectors, templates). Write the deep-link URL format, an SVG button and an HTML snippet, a public page explaining it, and a short list of 10 partners whose README or docs should carry it.
    02SEEN · ranked keywords
    Own one plain category phrase

“ai powered code editor” (33k searches a month) is Cursor's top generic term, #1 on its homepage. Almost everything else is people typing the name.

Effort: DayMeasure: Position for the phrase in Search Console at 60 days
    Prompt for your agent
List 5 plain-words phrases people search for our category, with real US monthly volume. Pick the one we can credibly own, then rewrite our homepage title, H1 and first paragraph around it without changing what we claim. Show before and after.
    03SEEN · X and YouTube
Every launch is a one-minute video

All 10 of @cursor_ai's most-liked recent posts are launch videos opening with “Introducing X” or “X is now live.” On YouTube, 1 to 2 minute “Introducing” videos sit next to a 12-minute tips video at 61M views.

Effort: WeekMeasure: Views per launch post vs your last 5
    Prompt for your agent
For our 3 most recent shipped features, write an X post each: line 1 "Introducing <feature>" or "<feature> is now live", line 2 what it lets you do in one sentence, then a 60 second screen recording script with the exact clicks. Draft only.
    04SEEN · founder X
Founder posts at the big moments

The founder's 3 biggest posts are the moments that mattered: an OpenAI dispute (6.1M), the SpaceX deal (4.0M) and a proof demo, “Cursor build a 3M+ line browser in a week” (1.6M).

Effort: DayMeasure: Founder post views vs brand account
    Prompt for your agent
Draft one founder post that shows a single, checkable proof of what our product did (a number, a timelapse, a before and after), under 280 characters, plus the 20 second clip it needs.
    05SEEN · YouTube, job openings
Seed creators, then let them teach

Fireship (3 videos at 0.9M to 1.3M), Tech With Tim (1.2M), CodeWithHarry (968k) and a Lex Fridman episode (1.0M) teach Cursor to their audiences. Cursor is hiring a Creator Campaign Manager now.

Effort: QuarterMeasure: Creator videos published, views, signups by code
    Prompt for your agent
Find 20 YouTube creators in our niche with 50k to 1M subscribers who posted a tutorial on a competitor in the last 6 months. For each: channel, the video, views, why they fit, and a 3 sentence first message that offers early access and something useful to their audience. Do not send.
    06SEEN · ranked keywords
    A forum that Google reads

forum.cursor.com carries 63 of Cursor's top 500 keywords; one thread on the redo shortcut ranks for searches made 49k times a month.

Effort: QuarterMeasure: Indexed Q&A pages and their visits
    Prompt for your agent
Propose a public, indexable Q&A space for our users (forum or GitHub Discussions), how answers from support become public posts, and the first 20 questions to seed it from our own support history.
    07SEEN · site page, keywords
    Students as a channel

cursor.com/students ranks for 20 terms (about 6.5k visits a month): named testimonials from Penn, Harvard, Stanford, Berkeley and CMU students, and a campus program to run events.

Effort: DayMeasure: Signups from school emails
    Prompt for your agent
Draft a /students page for our product: what students get, how they verify, 3 projects to try first, a campus ambassador offer, and the 5 testimonials we should go collect (who and what to ask).
    08SEEN · ad libraries
Ads where the buyer is, not where the clicks are

LinkedIn's ad library lists 4,346 Cursor ads, mostly Sponsored InMail plus customer stories (“IMDEX uses Cursor to... re-platform legacy apps 10x faster”). No active Meta ads; Google search ads ran Feb to Jun 2026 then stopped.

Effort: WeekMeasure: Meetings booked per $1k
    Prompt for your agent
Write 3 LinkedIn ads aimed at engineering leaders at 200 to 2,000 person companies: one customer story with a number, one Sponsored InMail, one short video. Include targeting, the landing page each points to, and the one metric to judge them on.

    What not to copy

    Looks good, the evidence disagrees.

Method: DataForSEO (24 months of rank history, 500 ranked keywords, backlinks, anchors), PredictLeads (news, funding, job openings), the LinkedIn, Meta and Google ad libraries, YouTube and X post data, ChatGPT answers to 3 buyer questions, and Cursor's own pages. Traffic is a third-party estimate of US Google visits, not Cursor's real totals; deal figures come from news reports. SEEN = shown by a data call or page; INFERRED = reasoned from what was seen. Data cost: $0.48. Not affiliated with Cursor.
