AQ Chat
Ask about your code, your data and your tools
A chat that runs queries, reads your repositories and your connected accounts, and answers with tables, charts and pages. When it is time to change code, it proposes the work item.
AQ Chat is a conversation with an AI agent that has real tools. It runs on a machine that is yours, with a shell, your secrets as environment variables, and the accounts you connected, so it can query a database, read a repository, or look something up in Linear or Slack, and then answer the way a colleague would: with a table, a chart, or a page you can share.
What people use chats for
"Which customers hit the export error this week?"
Query real data
Save a read-only database URL as a secret once. The chat sees it as an environment variable and runs the query itself.
"How does auth refresh work in our API?"
Read any repository
The chat opens its own copy of the repository and keeps it on the latest main, so it reads what is actually there.
"Fix it."
Hand off to Build
The chat proposes work items with a brief. Tick them, pick a repository, Start, and each becomes its own work item.
A chat, not a branch
A chat keeps no branch of its own and edits nothing in your projects. When it needs a repository it opens a private copy for that conversation, says which one and why, and refreshes it to the default branch at the start of each turn. Ending the chat removes the copy. Code changes always go through a work item, so every change still has its own worktree, review and pull request (see AQ Build).
Any model, your accounts
Chat with the subscriptions you already pay for (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Kimi, Grok and the rest) or with AQ models on credits, and switch between them inside the same conversation. Connected accounts such as Gmail, Slack, Linear, Sentry and Granola work in chats with the per-tool permissions you set (see integrations).
When a chat should keep going
If the question is one you will ask again tomorrow, the chat can propose a bot: the same job on a schedule or an event, in its own thread, with a monthly spend cap. See AQ Bots.
Free to start. Your own subscriptions stay unmetered.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a chat and a work item in AQ?
A work item is a task with its own git worktree, branch and pull request. A chat is a conversation with no branch: it can read, query and report, and it proposes work items when code needs to change.
Can an AQ chat run SQL against my database?
Yes. Save the connection string as a personal or organization secret and the chat gets it as an environment variable on your machine. Use a read-only credential for questions like these.
Does a chat need a repository?
No. A chat starts without one and opens a repository only when the question needs it, as its own copy kept on the latest default branch.
Which models can I chat with?
Any subscription you connect (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Kimi Code, Grok and more) or AQ models billed in AQ credits at the per-token price shown before you pick one.
